The Bahamas are a series of over 700 islands that stretches approximately 500 miles in the Atlantic Ocean with over 2,000 miles of coastline. The water is clear and beautiful. The major islands of the Bahamas include the Abacos, Acklins/Crooked Island, Andros, the Berry Islands, Bimini, Cat Island, Eleuthera/Harbour Island, the Exumas, Grand Bahama Island, Inagua, Long Island, Mayaguana, Nassau/Paradise Island, and San Salvador. The large number of reefs around the islands in the Bahamas help control the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The Abacos are a group of beautiful islands in the Bahamas that provide a large area of protected waters that are enjoyed by boaters. Andros is the largest of the Bahamas islands. It has the second largest barrier reef in the northern hemisphere and the third largest in the world. It is very popular for fishing and diving. Bimini is a district in the Bahamas. Fishing and scuba are very popular. Eleuthera is 110 miles long and very narrow for much of its length. Grand Bahama Island has sixty miles of white sandy beaches.
