Bermuda is in the Atlantic Ocean several hundred miles off the coast of South Carolina. The islands and islets are coral in origin and number about 138. There is plenty of rain but no rivers or lakes. Although English is the official language, some of the people speak Portuguese. Tourism is the second largest industry in Bermuda. Beach areas in Bermuda include Achilles Bay, Astwood Cove, Clearwater Beach, Church Bay, Elbow Beach, Horseshoe Bay Beach, John Smith's Bay, and Warwick Long Bay, among others. The beaches are pink due to the breakdown of shells and the remains of other small organisms which provide a pink color. The southwestern part of Bermuda wraps around Great Sound and Little Sound. Harrington Sound is enclosed in the center of Bermuda. Castle Harbor allows access to the Atlantic Ocean from both sides of the island.
