Nicaragua has long beautiful shores on the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean. There are almost 200 miles of coastline on the Pacific shoreline and almost 300 miles on the Caribbean. The beaches along the Pacific coast vary a lot with some being white and sandy with others being rocky. The coastline permits some to be calm while others have waves that can regularly be quite high. These conditions help explain why some beaches are very popular in Nicaragua while others are rarely visited. Dark sand is of volcanic origin. Some of the popular beach areas in Nicaragua along the Pacific coast include Casares, Chacocente, El Velero, Estero Padre Ramos, Huehuete, Jiquilillo, La Boquita, La Flor, Las Peñitas, Majagual, Marsella, Masachapa, Montelimar, Playa Maderas, Pochomil, Poneloya, San Juan del Sur, and Tola. The Caribbean beaches of Nicaragua are relatively undeveloped. Popular Nicaragua Caribbean beach locations include Big Corn and Little Corn islands and the Pearl Cays. There are also numerous lakes and rivers which provide a variety of beautiful beaches. Photos of Nicaragua can be found at:
